Now I’ve decided to take a hiatus from producing/selling for a bit, to focus more on the custom design/sewing/altering side of my business. The Magic of Marbling
You know the gorgeous marbling you’ll sometimes see inside the covers of antique books? I use the same basic technique to create these elegant, one-of-a-kind silk scarves, as well as hand-printed notecard sets and other marbled products.
The art of marbling developed 500 years ago in the historical region of Turkistan and spread all along the Silk Road. It involves floating colors on the surface of a thickened bath of water. Then special combs are manipulated to develop unique, intricate, mesmerizing patterns. The silk is carefully laid on top to print the colors directly, while maintaining the silk’s soft, luxurious "hand.“
